Latarjet Procedure
The coracoid bone with its attached tendons is transferred to the front of the shoulder socket — providing triple stability through bone, sling and capsule for high-demand athletes with bone loss.
What is Latarjet Procedure?
The Latarjet Procedure is a powerful shoulder stabilisation operation indicated for recurrent shoulder dislocations associated with significant glenoid bone loss, failed previous Bankart repair or in high-demand contact athletes. The coracoid process — a bony projection of the scapula — is detached along with its attached conjoint tendon and transferred to the anterior glenoid neck, where it is fixed with two screws. This creates three simultaneous stabilising effects: bone-block augmentation, conjoint tendon sling effect across the subscapularis and capsular reinforcement. Dr. Hithesh performs the Latarjet in Hyderabad for the most demanding instability scenarios.
How the Procedure Works
Anaesthesia & Approach
General anaesthesia plus interscalene block; a deltopectoral incision exposes the front of the shoulder for direct access.
Coracoid Osteotomy
The coracoid process with its attached conjoint tendon is carefully detached and prepared for transfer to the anterior glenoid.
Glenoid Preparation
The anterior glenoid neck is exposed, decorticated and prepared as a healing bed for the transferred coracoid bone block.
Bone Block Fixation
The coracoid is fixed flush against the anterior glenoid using two carefully placed bicortical compression screws.
Closure & Rehabilitation
Subscapularis is repaired; layers are closed; sling support and structured progressive physiotherapy guide complete shoulder recovery afterwards.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →Outstanding stability with very low recurrent dislocation rate over time
- →Directly addresses significant glenoid bone loss with bony augmentation
- →Triple effect — bone block, conjoint tendon sling and capsular repair
- →Ideal solution for high-demand contact athletes and revision instability
- →Allows planned safe return to competitive contact sports comfortably
- →Long clinical track record with proven outstanding long-term outcomes globally
When the glenoid runs out of bone, soft-tissue repair alone simply isn't enough. The Latarjet's three stabilising effects — bone, sling and capsule — make it the most reliable answer to the most challenging instability cases.
